About the Role
The Field Training Manager role plays a critical role in developing and coaching the sales force to maximize performance. This role focuses on virtual and field-based training, reinforcing selling skills, clinical knowledge, and strategic execution through real-time coaching and feedback. Partnering closely with District Leaders (DLs), Regional Directors (RDs), Sales Training and other key functions in the commercial business, they identify skill gaps, implement training programs, and support ongoing development, including new hire onboarding. By providing in-field observations, actionable feedback, and performance insights, the Field Training Manager ensures sales teams are prepared, confident, and equipped to drive business growth.
Let’s talk about some of the key responsibilities of the role:
Field Coaching & Skill Development – The Field Training Manager (FTM) will conduct regular field rides with Associate Territory Leaders (ATLs), Territory Leaders (TLs), and Inside Sales Reps (ISRs) virtually, providing hands-on coaching and feedback. The FTMs are product/disease state/industry experts allowing them to reinforce approved selling messages, strengthening objection handling, deepening clinical discussions, and enhancing business planning. These field rides will be coordinated in collaboration with the respective Regional Directors (RDs) and District Leaders (DLs) to ensure alignment with strategic goals.
New Hire Onboarding & Field Readiness – The FTM will play a key role in new hire onboarding, assisting in the planning, facilitation, and content creation for field training initiatives. This includes leading training calls, ensuring a consistent and structured approach across all sales regions, and preparing new team members to be successful in the field from day one.
Sales Meetings – In collaboration with sales leadership, key commercial functions, and the internal sales training team, the FTM will assist in designing and facilitating content for sales workshops and meetings, including Manager’s Meetings, Plan-of-Action (POA) meetings, and National Sales Meetings. The FTM ensures that training is engaging, relevant, and actionable!
Field Liaison – Acting as a bridge between the field and internal teams, the FTM is responsible for identifying training gaps and recommending solutions that enhance field effectiveness. By gathering insights from sales leadership and through field observations, the FTM helps ensure training remains dynamic, impactful, and aligned with evolving business needs.
Culture & Leadership – The FTM plays a key role in fostering a culture of commitment, empowerment, and teamwork, promoting extreme ownership, accountability, continuous improvement, and development. Through coaching, recognition, and development, the FTM helps reinforce a high-performance sales culture that drives results.
Factors for Success:
Bachelor’s degree in business, science, or related field
8+ years relevant experience required, healthcare/pharma, ophthalmic experience strongly preferred
Previous experience in field sales training is required
Strong presentation skills, facilitation skills, and communication skills, verbal and written
Strong interpersonal skills and business acumen
Ability to develop, implement and execute key training strategies
Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize workload
Ability to manage and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders
High technical and clinical knowledge as it relates to product and industry
Strong analytical skills

The Field Training Manager position will be a remote position.

This position reports directly to our Senior Director, Sales Training & Development
Willingness to travel approximately 70-80% of the time within respective Regions as well as travel to home office or sales meeting locations.

The expected base pay range for this position is $116,200 - $162,800 plus bonus, stock equity, and comprehensive benefits. The base pay range reflects the target range for this position, but individual pay will be determined by additional factors such as job-related skills, experience and relevant education or training.
